Faulkton Area Medical Center is seeking applicants for a full-time Speech Language Pathologist to join our therapy department and provide contracted speech language services to the Faulkton Area School District. Applicants must be licensed in the state of South Dakota. A minimum of 12 months of SLP experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.  Individuals must be able to work independently as well as with medical and school staff, patients and students, and family members. Compliance with accepted professional standards of practice is a must.

Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Administer hearing or speech and language evaluations, test, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments 
  • Develop or implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, or inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, advanced practice professionals, psychologists, or social workers 
  • Instruct patients in techniques for more effective communication, such as sign language, lip reading, or voice improvement 
  • Teach patients to control or strengthen tongue, jaw, face muscles, or breathing mechanisms 
  • Develop speech exercise programs to reduce disabilities 
  • Consult with and advise educators or medical staff on speech or hearing topics, such as communication strategies or speech and language stimulation 
  • Evaluate hearing or speech and language test results, barium swallow results, or medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice, or swallowing disorders 
  • Participate in and write reports for meetings regarding patients' progress, such as individualized educational planning (IEP) meetings, in-service meetings, or intervention assistance team meetings

Compensation: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour

Employee Benefits

Employees who work 30 hours or more a week qualify for the full benefit package. Those who work 20 or more hours per week will participate in retirement and paid time off. Those who work less than 20 hours per week may accrue and earn paid time off. 
Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Health Insurance
For employees working 30 or more hours per week, the single employee premium is 100% covered by FAMC. Employee has the option of choosing the low or high deductible health plan. The high deductible health plan includes a Health Savings Account. Employee will be covered the first of the month following 30 days of full-time employment.
Aflac Supplemental Insurance
Supplemental plans such as short/long-term disability, accident, critical illness, cancer, vision, dental, and more available at the employee's expense. Premiums may be deducted either pre or post tax depending on plan.
Kansas City Life Insurance
A basic, term life insurance policy of $15,000 is given to all full-time employees working 30 or more hours a week. Additional voluntary life insurance for employee, spouse, and/or dependents is available at the employee's expense. No underwriting is required upon initial enrollment.
Paid Time Off
Includes separate banks for vacation, holiday, and sick time. Time accrues based on hours worked. Holiday and sick time can be used as soon as it is earned. Vacation accrues but will not be earned to be used until completion of 6 months of employment. Over 200 hours may be accrued during the first 12 months of employment. Sick time may be used for employee or to care for spouse, parent, or dependent child.

Vision membership plans for employee and spouse/dependents are available at the employee's expense. There are three different plan options available: Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
South Dakota Retirement
For employees working 20 or more hours per week, participation with the SD Retirement system is mandatory. Employee's contribution is 6% and FAMC matches that contribution on a pre-tax basis. Employees are considered vested after 3 years of employment. SDRS offers retirement education and additional supplemental retirement options.
Delta Dental of South Dakota
Dental plan for employee and spouse/dependents is available at the employee's expense. The plan covers a high percentage of diagnostic and preventive services and portions of endotontics and periodontics, major services and orthodontics.
Education and Student Loan Reimbursement
FAMC provides in house instruction and certification for the following: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, and TNCC. Medical Staff host multidisciplinary quarterly education sessions with Coffee, Donuts, and Codes. Student loan reimbursement options are available for most most positions through facility and state programs (approval and acceptance required). South Dakota programs include RHFRAP and SLRP. Federal programs include NHSC and Nurse Corps. FAMC is also a Build Dakota Scholarship sponsor.
